Comedy Knights Fresh Comedian of 2014 Finalist - Dave Green

InterviewPosted by Bobby Carroll Thu, August 21, 2014 16:14:28

What area of London do you currently live in or most associate yourself with?

I grew up and went to school (Orleans Park Road and Richmond College) in Twickenhan but I currently live in Leytonstone, East London.

How would you describe your act in five words?

Darkly surreal one liners.

How long have you been doing comedy?

3 years

What is your day job?

I work part time in a coffee shop.

What has been your worst job?

Cleaning Science Laboratories.

Why do you love comedy?

I love comedy because it offers an immediacy that other art forms don't have. You can have an idea in the morning and then be presenting it to your audience that very same night.

Who are your heroes?

Steven Wright and Mitch Hedberg.

What made you bite the bullet and start performing?

I was writing short film scripts before but I never knew if they were funny or not so started testing the ideas out in front of people.

What was your first gig like?

My first gig was actually quite pleasant but my second ever gig I died big time.

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

My biggest achievement so far is probably being nominated for the Leicester Mercury Comedy Award.

What has been your favourite gig?

My favourite gig is probably Bobby Carroll's Comedy Knights.

And describe your worst?

My worst gig was performing in a pub in Luton where the audience consisted solely of Luton Town supporters who'd just lost a game. Stuff got thrown.

Weirdest heckle?

"You're hurting my head."

What is the best thing about being a comedian?

The best thing about being a comedian is being able to channel my weirdness into funniness.

What is the biggest lesson you've learnt?

Just concentrate on being good and everything else will follow.

Where do you hope to be in ten years with your comedy?

I would like to be able to tour and also do more writing for TV and radio.

Any other aspirations?

I've got a big soft spot for pranks so would love to create my own hidden camera show one day.

What's you favourite joke by another act or from your childhood?

"You can't have everything. Where would you put it?" - Steven Wright.
